Good morning, everyone. I am going to try to keep this as short as I can and get my point across. The Fuel-n-Food 3-day Ice Fishing Tournament is on in its entirety this weekend.
I know there is only 5-7 inches of ice as of this Wednesday morning 2/28/24. In my opinion it is still enough ice to safely have the contest. I WOULD NOT be out on side x sides at all, and very limited distances for 4-wheelers and sleds. Unless you absolutely know where you are going. In other words, Use your heads.
Ice fishermen are a different breed and know what they are up against, they have been fishing out here since first ice, and will be fishing whether there is a contest or not. With this being said just because the contest is a go doesn’t mean ice is safe everywhere, I know there are open spots in the usual areas, so fish at your own risk, if you haven’t been out all year scout your spot out early or get with someone who has been out.
I have held this contest for 26 years in all kinds of conditions from 3 feet of slush and snow, to 12″ of water on ice in pouring rain, to broken-up shorelines that made it hard to get on. Through it all the true fishermen fished, and no serious injuries occurred. Their support has gotten the contest to what it is today.

Therefore, I am not taking that opportunity away from them. Which brings me now to what the contest evolved into. Which is a two-day party with $30,000 of additional prizes, fun, and a BBQ at Wally’s Saturday at 3, that you don’t ever have to step foot on the ice to enjoy and have a chance to win. So, for the rest of us that don’t want to take the chance on the lake, which I understand 100% with this year’s warm winter.
There is still plenty of reason to spend $30 and join. Trust me, the parking lot party on Sunday alone is worth it, you won’t be disappointed. I don’t want to see anyone get hurt or put our first responders at risk, so remember at night when we’re having fun this weekend, resist the urge to venture out on the lake beyond where you know. Let’s not give the keyboard warriors and naysayers something to talk about.
