Lake Report: December 27th, 2024
“Alright folks, let’s talk ice! Had myself a Merry Christmas and got to do something I haven’t done in a decade – sledding on the lake before the big day! Checked things out from Lakeside all the way down to Sport Island Pub, and let me tell you, the ice is looking mighty fine.
Thickness:
We’re talking’ 4-5 inches of that solid black ice, the strongest kind you can get.
Coverage:
Pretty much the whole stretch is good to go.
Snow Cover:
About two inches of the white stuff on top, making for some nice smooth riding.
Heaves:
Nope, nothing to worry about there.
Now, here’s the deal:
Snowmobiling & Ice Fishing:
Go for it! Conditions are perfect.
Low Water Levels:
Be careful, folks. Water’s low this year, so those rocks, trap islands, and shorelines are sticking out further than usual. Think of them as mini-motocross jumps, but you don’t want to be jumping your sled, you know?
Sport Island Pub:
Watch out for those large ice chunks near the pub. They’re from when the river broke up earlier this year and they aren’t going anywhere. Approach slowly.
Side-by-Sides & 4-Wheelers:
Not yet, folks. Wait a bit longer.
Daytime Riding:
Stick to the daylight hours for now.
Fishing Report:
Haven’t seen many anglers out yet, but early ice usually means good fishing.
Tip of the Week:
Clean those carbs!
If your sled isn’t fuel-injected, give those carburetors a good cleaning. You’ll thank me later.
Overall, the ice is looking good, but always use your best judgment. And for goodness sake, be careful out there!
Now get out there and enjoy the lake!
